Pen and ink 1973 .
This is the very first in my Sunflower Lady series I did @ 16. It is very finely detailed in earth colored inks done with a croquill pen. My fascination with combining the human form with nature is reflective of my intuitive sense of oneness, that deep connection to nature as the reason for this ongoing theme in my work. The mystery of that oneness, that hidden reality, is what I love to express through these series. At this age I was just embarking on a conscious deep inner search - I was entering my soul journey, symbolized by the feet. I needed to find myself - I felt uprooted. I was seeking a deeper spiritual truth symbolized by the sunflower, how it seeks, turns toward the sun ( symbolizing the spirit - the source of light) for its sustenance.
